COMPARING RESA/ISDs
Regional Educational Services Areas/Intermediate School Districts (RESA/ISDs) are difficult to compare because they customize their services to meet the specific needs of the schools and communities they serve. A good example is the provision of special education services. While all RESA/ISDs have some responsibility for special education, the way in which they meet the statutory requirements may be different. CCRESA operates student programs while some RESA/ISDs contract with local districts to provide programming.
CCRESA has been working with the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) on detailing the working relationships between the State Board of Education, MDE, RESA/ISDs and the local schools. The working group noted it is important for RESA/ISDs to be flexible and customize their services based on the needs of their schools, their students, their local economy and the communities they serve. CCRESA conducted a survey in 2006 of local district staff and community needs to assist them in determining what services are the best fit in the Clinton County Community.
